Granton Medical brings business back to the North

Granton Medical, one of Sheffield’s oldest companies is working in partnership with Manchester based, Bailey Instruments, a partnership which celebrates Northern pride, boosts the local economy and invests in skills and innovation in the North of England.
Granton Medical who specialise in medical device packaging can trace its roots in Sheffield back to 1601. The family run business has evolved and grown over the last 400+ years, from the manufacture of cutlery including, knives, blades, surgical instruments and razors to a pioneering venture into the production of sterile packaging in the 1960s.
Today Granton Medical, is the country’s largest manufacturer of Self-Seal Sterilisation Pouches, which are used in the NHS, in dental practices and other healthcare and hygiene markets. Granton Medical also provide a subcontract medical device packing service under the name Cleanline.
Manchester-based Bailey Instruments who manufacture medical instruments worked with Granton previously but have also developed clean room operations in China.
Following the win of a new NHS contract, Bailey Instruments once again looked to their Northern neighbour, Granton Medical in the hope they could provide a shorter lead time service with smaller production runs and greater flexibility.
Managing Director Simon Charlesworth said: “Granton have enabled us to fulfil a major contract with an unpredictable level of product demand due to their ability to quickly produce small volume runs which are fit for purpose. Due to our close proximity to Granton, the Bailey Instruments team were also able to visit the Granton site and see first-hand the process behind our working relationship
Granton’s automated packing technology is an important part of its offering and business expansion. It’s enabled them to launch smaller, more specific runs of items for clients such as Bailey Instruments.
